If you’ve ever taken a photo of your cross stitch WIP that deserved better than being cropped to bits by a social app — this one is for you. And if you’ve ever stood in a craft shop squinting at your phone, trying to remember whether you own DMC 3865 or just think you do — this one is for you too.
Here’s everything that’s new.
🖼️ A Progress Card Made for Sharing
- Tap the new share button on any project and StitchWIP turns your latest photo into a proper card — your piece framed like a plate in a magazine, with the project name, designer, and the stats you choose underneath.
- One photo, or a mosaic of up to six from across the project’s history, oldest to newest — the whole journey in one image.
- Three sizes, matched to where you post: square, Instagram’s 4:5 portrait, and 9:16 for Stories, Reels and TikTok.
- Light or dark, independent of your phone — wanting a dark phone at 11pm is not the same as wanting a dark post. And the card follows your app theme, so a Golden Hour stitcher gets a Golden Hour card.
- Every export comes out crisp at full resolution, identical on every phone. Show off a finish, celebrate a milestone, or just share where you are — I’d love to see your cards out in the wild.
🧵 A Thread List for Every Pattern
- Every project now has a Thread List — the colors its pattern calls for, right on the project screen.
- Add colors by searching all 743 DMC colors by code or name, or paste your whole chart key in one go — spaces, commas, line breaks, whatever your PDF gave you. Codes we don’t recognize are kept exactly as typed, because charts love calling for colors outside the standard list.
- The list checks itself against your Supplies stash and gives you a straight answer for every color: need 3 · have 2 · buy 1.
- Tap Share and it sends just the shopping list — one line per color, with how many skeins to buy. The list to hand to the shop, or to yourself.
🗃️ Shared or Kitted — However You Actually Stitch
- Stitchers keep floss two ways, and now StitchWIP speaks both. Shared treats your stash as one collection — two projects calling for DMC 310 both count the same skein. Kitted commits floss per project: the piece you started first keeps its skeins, and later projects are told what’s already spoken for.
- Nothing is ever reserved or locked. The app only stores what each pattern needs and what you own, and works the rest out fresh every time — so you can switch between Shared and Kitted whenever you like, and deleting a project can never strand your floss.
- Finished and archived pieces release their colors automatically — that thread is already in the fabric.

📷 Photos in Your Stash
- Any item in Supplies can now carry a photo — born for fabric, because “antique white” is not a shade you can match from a name, but just as handy for a hand-dyed thread or a bead mix.
- The photo shows right on the item’s card, and tapping it in the detail view opens it full screen — the actual weave and shade, not a flat swatch.
- Stash photos are included in your backups, so they follow you to a new phone like everything else.
🛟 Easier Restores
- Cloud backups: a backup kept in Google Drive or Dropbox now shows up in the restore picker on Android — it used to hide, which is the last thing you need on a new phone.
- Help when you need it: Settings → Help now walks through restoring a backup step by step, including the one unobvious part — saving the file out of your cloud app first.
This update arrives on its own — no trip to the App Store or Google Play needed. Open the app and it installs quietly in the background, or pull down on the Home screen to grab it right away.
